Trenton showed why it's ranked No. 1.
The No. 1-ranked team in Division 2 handed Traverse City Central a 5-2 setback in a matchup of Trojan teams ranked in the top 10.
Trenton took a 2-0 lead by the time 7:42 had ticked off the clock.
Central's Jared VanWormer answered with an unassisted goal to bring his team within a goal at 2-1 at the 11:25 mark of the first.
Trenton then went up 5-2 before Central's Max Schrank scored off a Caleb Morgan assist in the third period for the game's final score.
"Trenton is a good team, holy cow," Central coach Chris Givens said. "They come at you fast and move the puck.
"That was by far the best team we've seen this year, and I don't know we'll see any better. That No. 1 ranking is not a mistake."
Central (3-4, 2-0 Big North Conference) was outshot 40-18, with freshman goalie Bill Vermetten making 35 stops.
